A Seat at the Table.

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

I am Child of the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords. I have a Kingly heritage. I am no longer a beggar. I am no longer a pauper. I have a portion. The Lord is my portion. I was brought into this world as a beggar, as a blind man, with nothing but a body full of death, with disgusting sores. I had nothing to offer Him. I had nothing of a value. I was full of hate and anger for my situation. I am reminded of Mephibosheth, who was a son of Jonathan, a close friend of King David, 2 Samuel 9 tells the story. When David became King, it was common practice in those days to kill any descendants of the former royal family. It would have been normal for King David to order his execution. The story tells us that Mephibosheth was cripple, because when he was younger his caretaker was fleeing the current regime change and was fleeing for their lives, when she dropped Mephibosheth and he became lame. Yet we find that when David became king He sought out this child, descendant of Jonathan and brought him into his palace and treated him as though he was his own. Mephibosheth had nothing to offer King David. Let’s be honest, we have nothing to offer God. We are crippled and broken. We were created in His image and we were place in a place of authority over all His creation. We were given everything, but we forfeited everything for a mere fruit, Or a mere moment of lust. Which we thought would be great. Eve saw that the fruit was desirable and was enamored by the desire to become wise like god, knowing good and evil. That is what we sold our birthright to gain. In my life personally I have done the same thing. I had sold my birthright for a moment of pleasure. More times that I even want to think about. That’s the bad news!!!! Here is the good news. God in His mercy sent Jesus His Son to come and sacrifice His life in my place. He took my ugliness. My crippled life. My body full of disgusting sores and applied the the balm of Gilead, that is Jesus himself. He traded my sins for His righteousness. He prepared a place for me at His table and He called me His Child. 1 John 3:1 says, ' Behold what manner of Love the Father has bestowed on us that we should be called His children." That’s paraphrased. That’s the good news. Along with being adopted into God’s family, we now have access to all that belongs to Him. He is our portion. That is mind blowing. He is my portion!!! No longer am I broken. I am once again established in His image. Perfect, without sin, without a spot or wrinkle. That is Amazing! Where are you today? Are you living with the blood of Jesus applied to your account? Are still a beggar walking in this world, trying to find that moment of pleasure to fulfill you? Trying to get rich, gather all the things this world has to offer? Pursuing Success? Hoping to find fulfillment in everything but Jesus. You can’t have both? Each requires your everything! Either you pursue the world with all you have, or you surrender to Jesus and allow Him to become your everything. Guess what one moment in Heaven will make you forget everything this world promised you. Choose Jesus.
